Qoyllur Rit’i, Peru

Qoyllur Rit’i is a Quechua word that means Snow Star.  Every year round 80,000 pilgrims travel to the Sinakara Valley a few hours outside Cusco to celebrate the festival of Qoyllur Rit’i.  Alongside the great sacred mountain (or Apu) of Qullqipunku at an altitude of 4600m the pilgrims celebrate a strange mixture of Inca, animist and Catholic traditions.  You can read more about the festival here
